WORDS LIKE ASHES A FIRST AND COLLECTIVE EFFORT

St. Albert, Alberta—the St. Albert poetry writers known as Poets Ink!! has launched their first book, Words Like Ashes.

Poets Ink! is now into its fourth year of gathering weekly to write and many of the pieces in this collection have their beginnings at those weekly sessions.  An ad hoc as opposed to a structured society, Poets Ink! welcomes any and all poets to come and write most Thursday evenings.

Words Like Ashes is a collection of the work of five poets, Glen Kirkland, Timothy Cusack, Andy Michaelson, Joanne Osborne- Paulson and Darlene Spong Henderson.  Author and poet Thomas Trofimuk in his cover notes comments, “This is a really fine collection – five diverse poets firing full blast – from the sublime to the down-right bawdy, delivering a smorgasbord of poetic delight.”  Trofimuk further states, they, “…do what great poets are supposed to do – titillate, tease, tickle, sadden, provoke, infuriate and mostly translate all human emotions onto the page with clear-eyed temerity.”

According to Poets Ink! spokesperson Andy Michaelson, “We are a very busy group.  Poets Ink! from the beginning has been involved in hosting workshops, readings by other authors. Recently,  we attended a gallery opening where, in thirty-five minutes, we toured and wrote about a new exhibit, finishing the event by reading the work.  It was an outstanding success and it was exhilarating.”

Poets Ink! will be continuing with a number of projects in the region including some community activities involving writing to and publishing “chapbooks” on social issues.

A copy of Words Like Ashes is now available at:  Audreys Books, Greenwoods’ Bookshoppe, The Bookstore on Perron, St. Albert,  Laurie Greenwood’s Volume II and Mandolin Books .
