Stephansson House Provincial Historic Site

Come and enjoy the peaceful setting of the beautifully restored home of Stephan G. Stephansson, beloved Icelandic poet and Alberta pioneer.

Celebrate Alberta’s literary and artistic heritage at Poetry at Stephan’s House on Sunday, June 24 from 2 - 6 pm. This special event showcases the stanzas of Stephan G. Stephansson (“Poet of the Rocky Mountains”) and contemporary Alberta poets and their works. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of poetry, live music and theatre, games and goodies for the entire family. An open stage program starting at 2 pm features poets, storytellers, live music and a short drama. A variety of children's crafts and activities are included in this event and everyone will have the opportunity to learn about pioneer life and Icelandic immigration through tours with costumed interpreters.

Stephansson House is located 7 km North of Markerville off secondary highways 781 and 592, just 20 minutes South of Sylvan Lake, and 30 minutes South-West of Red Deer.
