 Help Make Alberta a Masterpiece

Tourism, Parks, Recreation and Culture is seeking your input on the broad questions that define our shared culture – our values, what we consider beautiful, how we spend our leisure time, how we think about and treat other people, where we come from and where we are going. Alberta Artists at Taste of Chicago

Four Alberta musical acts will represent Canada at the 2007 Chicago Country Music Festival, which is part of the Taste of Chicago Festival on July 1. The four musical acts will perform on the Illinois Lottery Taste Stage in a tribute to Canada.

The four participating Alberta musical acts are:

•           Lisa Hewitt of Bon Accord

•           Tracy Millar of New Sarepta

•           The Swiftys of Edmonton

•           The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir of Calgary

The invitation for the Alberta artists to participate in the festival came as a result of a Chicago city official attending the Alberta Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. in 2006 and being impressed by the Alberta talent.

The four musical acts participating in the Chicago festival received $18,650 from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) to help pay for their attendance at the festival, transportation and varying performance fees.

“The chance to help Alberta artists showcase their talent at such a prestigious event is an honour,” said Audrey Luft, chair of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. “The AFA is thrilled that these groups are getting a chance to perform in Chicago and we know that they will do us proud as Albertans.”
